Our preschool-nursery school is for children ages 2 years 9 months to 5 years old. Our programs run from September through June, and are traditionally structured programs - intended to prepare your child for the emotional, social and cognitive facets of kindergarten (and beyond).
Registration
In December, we start the registration process for the upcoming school year (which begins in September).
In December, the office staff begins calling parents who have registered their child (or children) by phone or in-person.
If you wish to pre-register your child yourself you can do this by calling us at 978-462-2441 and/or by filling out and submitting our preregistration form. We will then put your child's (or children's) name on the registration list and set up an appointment for a tour of the preschool.
We encourage you to download our 2012-2013 registration and tuition fees document. Then contact us for additional information on registration and our programs at 978-462-2441. You can also email us at; info@mapreschools.com
Upon successful registration, an appointment will be made to meet with the director. On the day of this meeting, the parent and child will fully learn about the program. They will have a one-on-one guided tour through the school. They will also meet with the staff, and "get a feel" of what our programs are about. You will be able to see current students participating and interacting with other children and the staff. This is the ideal time to decide whether this is the type of program best suited to your child's needs. Not all programs are alike, and no two children are alike.

Our Preschool Programs
2.9-3.5 Year Old Age Group
In this age group class we concentrate on social skills and development of self-help skills; such as using the toilet, washing hands, putting on their own jackets and even the setting up of their own snacks. We work with the children on teacher directed activities in a group setting; such as listening to stories and taking directions from the teacher on a craft activity.
We will be introducing "Hand Writing Without Tears©" into our curriculum this year. We will also be conducting age appropriate activities like learning about big and little lines, and big and little curves. We will also be using Aim and Scribble, which teaches children how to hold crayons correctly, to progress smoothly into coloring, drawing and writing their letters and numbers.
Our goal for your child is to make new friends, play cooperatively, have respect for others, have fun and not miss Mom or Dad too much while at school!
3.5-4.5 Year Old Age Group
In this age group we teach social skills through five, "I Care Rules" and we encourage self reliance skills. Our curriculum is organized around themes - with many hands-on and open-ended activities. This year we will also incorporate "Handwriting Without Tears©" into our curriculum.
Our goal for your child is to leave our class with a positive attitude towards learning, as well as the self confidence to excel in the future.
4.5-5 Year Old Age Group
In the pre-K group, the children need to be 4+, so that they can enter kindergarten the following September (September 1st is the cutoff in Newburyport and surrounding communities.
Our main objective in the oldest class is to fine tune their social skills for their big step to kindergarten. We want your child to be able to interact freely with other children, and play cooperatively.
We also want them to feel comfortable with teachers; in conversation, while listening, and to be able to follow directions. Their attention span is getting longer, so they are able to listen to longer stories and learn more verses to songs. They are also becoming more self confident and their self-help skills are continuing to increase.
They are also now learning upper and lower case letters, their sounds as well as writing skills. We continuing to work on numbers, shapes and colors - as well as arts and crafts - using as many mediums as possible. We are also incorporating as many multicultural activities into our daily projects as possible - to learn about other ethnicities as well as our own.
We make good use of our extra large gymnasium; working on gross motor skills, playing games and running around (safely). We want your child to graduate with confidence in the skills they'll need for kindergarten, and to feel comfortable to seek out friends confidently!
