MARCH 2023

MARCH 2023

“You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild to pick up a Book and read to a child.” -Dr. Seuss

I want to take a moment to explain why we canceled school on February 17th. This decision was not made lightly.  Having the stomach bug landed me in the hospital on the 16th, numerous children had it and parents were getting nervous sending their children to school.  When an additional two teachers started feeling sick and with the number of children who were expected to be absent, the decision was made to close in the hope of stopping the spread. The Teachers and I felt this was a necessary step to ensure the health of the teachers, all our students and their families.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused!

 VALENTINE’S DAY PARTIES

Everyone looked so cute in their Valentine’s Day Colors.  The children had fun passing out and receiving their special valentines. Thank you to the parents that brought in the treats for our party. Our tables looked festive, and your children enjoyed them.

 Happy New Year!

May this new year bring you: health, happiness, peace, and prosperity. Wishing you a joyous 2023!!

We hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. The teachers and I appreciate having this time off to relax with our families and to get ready for the new year.  We begin with a change to our teaching staff. Towards the end of our break Meaghan DeMeo was given an opportunity to go back into the field of Special Education. She loves Special Ed so it was an opportunity she could not pass up. She will be leaving us on January 13th to begin a new job at the River Valley Charter School. We are very sad to see her leave but of course we are happy for her. At the same time, I found out my grandson’s cousin Ashley Eldridge might be interested in a career in Early Education. She worked at the Ipswich YWCA as a camp counselor for two summers and loved working with this age group. She will be joining Mrs. Gray and Mrs. DeMeo on January 5th.  We are excited to give her this opportunity to explore the field of early education, she will be learning from one of the best.

Christmas Party and Sing along

We hope you enjoyed our sing-along. The children did an awesome job, and we were very proud of them. Santa aka Tom Senior, a friend of mine and former parent of MMNS had fun chatting and taking pictures with the kids.  During our gift exchange we found out everyone was on Santa’s nice list. Thank you to those who sent in the goodies for our Christmas Party.

There will be no school if the Newburyport School System cancels school due to inclement weather. No school or delayed opening announcements will be sent via email, will be posted on class dojo and on our Facebook page. “If children feel safe, they can take risks, ask questions, make mistakes, learn to trust, share their feelings and grow” -Alfie Kohn

Welcome to Mrs. Murray’s Nursery School

Welcome to the MMNS community! We encourage a welcoming atmosphere to ensure that everyone feels Mrs. Murray’s is a warm, friendly, comfortable and safe place to learn new things, make new friend and have lots of fun.

The first day of school will bring a wide range of emotions for YOU and your child. Please take a moment to read Helping Your Child Have A Great First Day Of Preschool (copy the link below)

www.verywellfamily.com/helping-your-child-have-a-great-first-day-of-preschool-2764897

Our plan to help with first day jitters, we suggest making a “quick exit”.

Bring your child to their classroom and greet the teacher. Let your child know they will have a fun day, and that you can’t wait to hear about their day at pick up. Give them a big hug and kiss and say goodbye. The classroom teacher will do their “magic” to get your child started with their school day.

If you have a reluctant child, just breathe, and let the teacher take them from you. We know that it is very difficult to do but…we have found over the many years of teaching if you prolong your goodbye, it prolongs your child’s chance to settle in. I will be in the entryway just in case you need a hug as well.

As soon as possible, we will be in touch to let you know how your child is doing either by calling you or by sending you a picture of your child via class dojo.

Teachers and Classrooms

It has been a busy summer with some changes. The first being Ashley Murphy has left to return to Masconomet Regional School. We are sad that she had to grow up and leave preschool. We wish her the best!

We have hired Alyssa Ritter on MWF and Sarah Adams on T/Th. Both are licensed Preschool Teachers and will be co-teaching with Lindsay Forrest. Liz Tingley, a familiar face for some, will be returning as a substitute. We are thrilled to have them part of MMNS!

The teachers have been getting their classrooms ready and we have switched a couple of them. Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Flansbury’s MWF PreK class has moved from Room 5 to Room 2 so that both of Mrs. Forrest’s classes will be able to be in Room 5. This will make it easier for a few of our “middle” class students who attend Five days as well as Mrs. Forrest.

Health and Safety Protocols

While there is no mask mandate in place for this year, we want the school to be a healthy environment for all. Please send your child with a mask if that’s what makes you and your family more comfortable. Also, we have updated our Healthcare policy which will be emailed to you.

Meet and Greet

Five Day and T/TH Programs: September 13th at 9

MWF Programs: September 14th @ 9

A teacher will be at the entrance to greet you and give you a name tag for you and your child.

Five Day and T/TH Programs: September 15th (8:45 – 12:30)

MWF Programs: September 16th (8:45 – 12:30)

Drop off will be at the classroom door. If you prefer to begin the year dropping off at our entrance, I will be there to greet you and assist your child to their classroom

Pick up: At this time, pick up will be at our entrance door for Mrs. Mirra and Mrs. Forrest’s classes and the doors on the right for Mrs. Gray’s and Mrs. Smith’s classes.

Tuition

Payment plan installments are due the first of the month. Invoices will be emailed approximately 5 days prior to the first, you may pay online, by mail or in person. If you would like to switch your method of payment, please let me know. Late payments will be assessed a $15 late fee and there is a $30 return check fee.

We are in the process of finalizing our first field trip. It will either be to Applecrest Farms, Hampton Nh or to Connors Farm in Danvers. Both farms are approximately 25 mins away. Parents will need to provide transportation to the farm. More information will be provided once we make our decision.

Five Day and T/TH Programs: September 29th

MWF Programs: September 30th .

There will be no school for the Five Program on September 30th .

Note: In the event this field trip is canceled, there will be no school on either day as the church is rented out for a Quilters Bazaar from Thursday through Saturday.

Snack Time

Please supply their lunchbox with a Napkin, a Healthy Snack, and drink or a water bottle. ☺ PLEASE remember we are TREE NUT and PEANUT SENSITIVE. Please make sure your child’s snacks DO NOT contain any PEANUTS OR TREE NUTS Products

Please notify the office of any changes in address, email addresses, phone numbers, Emergency contacts, authorization to release or custody agreements. The office will notify you a month in advance, when your child needs a new physical, if it is during the school year.

Fire Drills and Evacuation Drills

We will practice fire drills once a month and lock down drills twice a year. The first full week of school we will practice a fire drill. The teachers explain to their class what a fire drill is and then do a walk through with them. In future months, I will use the smoke detector outside the classroom doors to alert the classrooms we are having a fire drill.

During the first month of school, the Newburyport Fire Department will come in and conduct a fire drill.

Parent Participation

Parent participation is always welcomed. There are many ways to become involved, you can read a book, do a craft, supply treats for our holiday party, etc. You can spend 10/15 minutes or an hour with us. Happy New Year!

May this new year bring you: health, happiness, peace, and prosperity. Wishing you a joyous 2022!!

Return to School: Monday, January 3rd.

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. If you celebrated with family and friends which I hope you did, please be extra cautious when sending your child back to school. Take a moment to check in with the people you were with to see if everyone remained healthy. If they did not or if you, your child, their siblings have any symptoms, feel you might need to test or are waiting on test results, please wait a few days before having them return.

My motto: when in doubt; please keep them out. 😊

Note: Regarding the new protocols, as of today, the EEC has yet to send out new guidelines and I will be relying on the Newburyport Health Department and my Healthcare consultant for guidance.

Masks

Just an FYI: The Health department is recommending disposable masks instead of cloth.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Feast. We made thanksgiving attire, butter, johnny cakes (corn pancakes) and popcorn.

Community Service:

“Thank you” Flyers for Veteran’s Day: Michael’s Harborside included them in their mail out to 625 local veterans. A veteran emailed us to thank us and then I ran into a former parent, and she stated how nice it was to receive one. Happy to hear they are putting a smile on our veteran’s faces.

Artwork For Olive’s: This month, our MWF programs will be providing Hannukah and Christmas artwork.

Christmas Sing along

November 2021

Yay!! I am off quarantine and will be returning to school on Monday. The teachers did a wonderful job! What a great group of women!!! Prospective parents ask why choose Mrs. Murray’s. They are why!! Here we are family and when you send your children, you become part of our family as well.

I am a true believer in silver linings and things happen for a reason. In my absence, Meaghan DeMeo was my substitute in Mrs. Gray’s class. Well, she loved it so much she decided to join our team. We welcome her as Mrs. Gray’s new co-teacher.

Olive’s Coffee Shop

We would like to thank Olive’s for getting the community involved in their Halloween decorations. Some of our classes made pictures for them to hang. They loved the decorations so much they will continue with different holidays throughout the year. If you get your coffee there, please look around for MMNS children’s artwork. Love supporting local businesses!!

Halloween Party

Hope the children enjoyed their parties! They looked so cute in their costumes and did a great job at the parade. Loved looking at the pictures and videos on Class Dojo! A special Thank you to the parents who supplies our treats!!

Lockdown Drill

This month we will hold a “state mandated” lock down drill. First, we explain to the children what a lock down drill is and what we need to do. We compare it to the fire drills. What we do: We say: There is someone in the building we do not know, and we want you to be safe. In each room, one teacher will quietly lead the children to our safe spot (back room in Room 2) while the other teacher turns off the lights, pulls the curtains/shades down and barricades the door (for drill puts a door stop in) then joins the rest of the group. Once everyone is in Room 2, we sit quietly for a few minutes. After we congratulate the children on a job well done and answer any questions they have. For parents, I know this is a scary topic, for the children they have fun trying to be as quiet as possible.

Election Day

For the safety of our children, there will be No School on Tuesday November 2, 2021. The Hope Church is used for polling.

Veteran’s Day

There will be No School on Thursday, November 11, 2021, as we observe the Veteran’s Day Holiday. All our classes will be making “Thank you” cards which will be photocopied and used in the Veteran’s Day Luncheon Invitation Michael’s Harborside is sending out. Our little way of saying Thank you to our Veterans.

Thanksgiving

On Monday November 22nd and Tuesday November 23rd we will be having our Thanksgiving Feast. We will be making butter (heavy cream), Johnny Cakes “little pancakes” (Jiffy corn muffin mix) air popped popcorn, craisins and apple juice. No additional snack will be needed. If your child has a food allergy, I will be in contact with you shortly. NO SCHOOL on Wednesday November 24-26. Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Break: There will be no school November 24th - 26th. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

SNOW DAY POLICY

There will be no school if the Newburyport School System cancels school due to inclement weather. Health and Wellness

Thank you to everyone for keeping their children home when they are sick, or you feel they are coming down with a cold. Believe me I know it is hard when they have mild cold symptoms BUT our school is a healthier place for both your children and our teachers because of it. We appreciate your effort!!!!

September 2021

The First Day of School is fast approaching. While we will miss the lazy days of summer, we are excited to be starting the new year. The teachers are busy getting their rooms ready while I have been busy getting the paperwork and class assignments done. We are almost there. Now to answer the question that is on everyone’s mind what we will be doing regarding masks.

MASKS

As of today, according to the EEC “children under 5 are exempt from the DPH advisory of wearing masks.” * With that said we have decided on the following. We will not put forth a mask mandate but will leave it up to each individual family. Note: If you have your child wear a mask, we are less likely to have to quarantine a classroom in the event we have a positive case. *subject to change

Teachers will be wearing masks indoors when they are unable to distance themselves. While they will be wearing them your children will be able to see their teacher without a mask during many parts of the day.

Parents: Mask will be required for all parents entering the building.

CLASSROOMS

An air purifier is on in each classroom, and we use the product Force of Nature to sanitize and disinfect surfaces and toys.

Health and Safety Protocols

We want the school to be a healthy environment for all. In lieu of a mask mandate we will keep in place health screenings.

Prior to sending your child to school, please answer the following questions, if you answer yes to any of the questions, please do not send your child to school until their symptoms have improved or they have a negative COVID test if one is needed.

Today or in the past 72 hours, have you or any household members had any of the following symptoms?

• Fever (a temperature, felt feverish or had chills?

• Cough?

• Sore throat?

• Difficulty breathing?

• Gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting)

• Fatigue?

• Headache?

• New loss of smell/taste?

• New muscle aches?

• Any other signs of illness?

In the past 10 days, have you had close contact with a person known to be infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID 19) or waiting for results?

If your child has any of these symptoms, you should contact their pediatrician, who will advise you if a COVID test is needed. Last year parents did a great job keeping their children home when they were sick, had a runny nose, or they felt they were coming down with a cold.

The teachers explain to their class what a fire drill is and then do a walk through with them. In future months, I will use the smoke detector outside the classroom doors to alert the classrooms we are having a fire drill.

During the first month of school, the Newburyport Fire Department will come in and conduct a fire drill.

At this time there will be no in school parent participation. A way to participate is to video yourself reading a story and we will share with the class. We value your input and look forward to having you come into the classrooms in the future.

We Made it!

We started the school year with: Will there be another shutdown? Will we go remote? Will we be able to keep everyone safe? Will the children be able to wear mask? Will the children have fun? Will the teachers be able to teach in masks? The unknowns were many. Now, here we are with six weeks left. All the unknowns are behind us and I am happy we took the risk and provided you and your children with much needed normalcy.

It would not have happened without our wonderful teachers. They are the BEST, and I cannot thank them enough. They put aside their own fears, put on their masks and treated this year like any other. They provided a fun and loving environment for your children to learn and grow.
